7th Grade Pre-Algebra
In this course students explore integers, factors, fractions, rational numbers, ratio, proportion, percent, equations, and inequalities.
Supply List
8th grade Pre-Algebra
This course will review basic math concepts such as fractions, ratios, percents, and statistics. It will develop topics such as linear equations, use of formulas, geometry, and functions. This course is a prerequisite for Algebra 1.
Resource Algebra I
Resource Algebra I is similar to a regular Algebra I course in High School, except that we complete it in smaller chunks and use lots of repetition. We cover topics like expressions and equations; tables, stem and leaf plots, and scatter plots; mean, median and mode, radicals and square roots, monomials, polynomials, and trinomials; functions, slope, and inequalities; Pythagorean Theorem; using different formulas; proportions and probability; and graphing.
Algebra 1:
This year long course is design to reinforce mathematical concepts taught in Pre-Algebra. The content will expand the student's knowledge of linear equations, polynomial functions, radical expressions, and statistics. This course is a pre-requisite for Geometry.
Supply List
Algebra 2:
This course is design to prepare students for advanced mathematics such as Pre-Calculus and Elementary Statistics. Content covers linear equations, inequalities, systems and matrices. A comprehensive study of quadratics and polynomial functions, radical equations and complex numbers, rational expressions, exponential relations and conic section are included.
Supply List
GEOMETRY Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in Algebra 1 and teacher recommendation.
The objective of this course is to help the student understand plane and space relationships. Topics covered are: basic spatial concepts, deductive proofs, parallelism, perpendicularity, congruence, quadrilaterals, ratio and proportion, similar polygons, the Pythagorean Theorem, right triangle trigonometry, circles, coordinate geometry, regular polygons, areas, volumes, compass and straight edge constructions, and optional subjects as time allows.
Supply List
Consumer Math for Grades 9-12
In this course students practice math skills and related life skills needed in the areas of budgeting, banking, saving, selecting housing, and understanding credit cards, loans and interest. Mathematics classroom activities are connected to real life challenges. Students gain proficiency in these math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide with money; round money amounts; estimate costs; find an average; find percent; interpret circle graphs showing percents; compare percents; find perimeter and area of rectangles; solve proportions; add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals; and find the unit price.
Supply List
Statistics
Prerequisite: Algebra 2
This course is designed to prepare students for a basic understanding of college level statistics. Qualitative and Quantitative data will be discussed. Methods of data collection, analysis between variables, probability and confidence testing will be thoroughly covered. This course is an AP level, 1 semester college course taught in a full year of high school. It is a junior/senior course. 3 semester credits can be earned through Northwest Nazarene University.
Introduction to Business
Prerequisite: none
This 1 semester course will survey the basic components found in business. Discussion on economic affects, ethical and social responsibilities, business ownership, business management, and marketing will be covered. Current events will be highlighted.
Study Skills
Study skills classes are a mixture of several components. The most important being that it is a quiet environment to work on homework and ask question when needed to complete assignments as well as having availability to computers. Also during this time extra time is given for remediation of Math, Reading, English, and Written Language skills as needed for each student. Other topics discussed are: organization; time management; study habits; learning styles; note taking; and test taking.
