Drama 7/8
This course is designed to cover the "basics" of drama, or the study of the theatre. Major emphasis will be on effective communication, teamwork and performance. We will cover the history of theatre, different forms of theatre, cultural issues in theatre, basic skills of performance and communication.
Drama I & II
Success in drama means so much more than the possibility of becoming famous and winning an academy award. Drama has so many other values to offer. Work in drama stimulates creative abilities, develops inner resources that lead to an enriched life by nurturing cultural appreciation and reading plays that have been written by some of the world's greatest thinkers. This literature satisfies the aesthetic, intellectual, and emotional needs of participant and spectator.
Study in theatre provides both social and individual development. You will belong to a group that works towards a creative goal and develop qualities that promote maturity: teamwork, co-operation, and dependability. You will also develop a deeper understanding of people by studying characterization and analyzing plays. Personal growth is assured as you gain confidence, poise, and control from frequent participation in improvisation, reading short scenes and plays, and participating in performances
Stagecraft/Video (9-12)
This course covers basic stage-craft for all design areas. An introduction to the craft of theatrical production, concentrating upon tools, materials, and construction techniques used to implement design. Application of the six principles of art is included. The student will also be exposed to stage-management, makeup methodology, theatre organization, and management. Further topics include: Theatrical languages and their use, understanding ground plans, basic scenic stagecraft, basic lighting stagecraft, basic costume stagecraft, and props construction.
