JUNIOR HIGH DANCE:

Junior high dance is a semester long course used to provide students with an introduction to dance. While some technical dance forms are introduced, participation rather than performance level is the focus. Students will learn basic dance vocabulary and skills. Performance is a class requirement.

DANCE I:

Dance I is a course designed to introduce students to basic dance technique, performance qualities and development of physical strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, and fitness. Students will gain experience in the movement styles including ballet, jazz, modern and world dance forms. Students will expand their dance vocabulary, skills, and develop their creative abilities through choreography, improvisation and performance. Performance is a class requirement.

DANCE II - Intermediate Dance:

Dance II is a continuation of the development of basic dance technique, performance qualities and the development of physical strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, and fitness introduced in Dance I. Students will be expected to execute skills at a high level and have a cognitive understanding of how to work safely. Students must be dance majors or have instructor permission to participate. Performance and choreography exercises are class requirements.

DANCE III - Advance Dance:

Dance III is a dance technique course designed for dance majors. Dancers must be dance majors or have instructor permission to be in the course. The course is designed for students interested in continuing dance outside of the school setting and will include auditioning skills, artistic statements and may include some projects used for portfolio completion. Students will be expected to execute skills at an advanced level, have a cognitive understanding of how to work safely and a general understanding of how dance is historically/globally relevant. Performance and choreography exercises are class requirements.

DANCE THEORY:

Dance Theory is a course only for Dance Emphasis students. It is designed to encourage students to explore dance in an historical context, provide a framework for which students can respond to dance from an analytical and critical perspective, and finally, provide tools for creating and composing dance. Design, performance technique, and other historical influences will be discussed. Students will be required to participate in out of class activities. Completion of this class is a requirement for Dance Emphasis students.

PLATINUM DANCE COMPANY:

Dance Company (Platinum Dance Company) is the Idaho Arts Charter School's premiere dance performance group. It is an opportunity for the advanced study of dance technique, performance and dance competition. Sportsmanship and fair-play are emphasized. Participation in the Platinum Dance Company has travel, financial, and audition requirements.
