Meeting Minutes
Idaho Arts Charter School’s mission is to develop students with theacademic achievements, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in elementary, middle and secondary school, and to be offered a post-secondary education and satisfying employment.
Additionally, the school seeks to inspire students and develop artistic talents, attitudes and skills in students, promoting lifelong avocation in arts areas. The school seeks to develop an educated citizenry for the 21st century through academic programs, centered around a diverse arts curriculum, using focused investigations.
Instruction will be well grounded in Idaho Standards including the basics of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, and will develop the habits of lifelong learning, curiosity, clear oral and written communication, creative thinking, effective use of technology as a tool, adaptability to new situations and new information, and problem-solving skills. Students will gain these skills and abilities through a curriculum based heavily in music, drama, visual arts and dance.
Students will develop personal habits and attitudes that lead to accepting responsibility for personal decisions and actions; academic honesty and the ability to face challenges with courage and integrity; a healthy lifestyle; empathy and courtesy for others; respect for differences among people and cultures; self-confidence and willingness to risk setbacks in order to learn; and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Educational Philosophy (from petition):
The philosophy of the Idaho Arts Charter School is grounded in the belief that if provided with a healthy, safe, and encouraging environment, all students can and want to learn.
Idaho Arts Charter School’s philosophy is that learning is maximized when:
- focused investigations are implemented across the curriculum;
- compelling projects are designed and guiding questions are asked;
- fieldwork, local expertise and service learning are incorporated;
- high quality student work is produced and presented;
- effective instructional practices are used school wide;
- reading and writing are taught across the disciplines in K-12;
- inquiry-based mathematics and science are taught;
- learning is done in and through the arts;
- a school culture is built and character is fostered;
- a professional community is developed;
- families are engaged in the life of the school; and
- time is designed for student and adult learning.
Students, parents, and teachers will experience peace of mind in the Idaho Arts Charter School setting because of a commitment to the concept that each child has the right to attend school in an environment that fosters learning.
Each parent has the right to expect a school to provide a healthy and nurturing environment for their child. Each staff member has the right to teach in a respectful environment.
We are committed to teach students respect for all people regardless of age, gender, color, race, nationality or religious affiliation. Respect as a value, we believe, can be taught, not by fear or intimidation; but by sound and fair discipline as well as by example. Disrespect by anyone toward any other person or anything will not be tolerated.
