Idaho Arts Charter School
K-12 Attendance Policy
A student may miss no more than 6 days (excused or unexcused) absences in one quarter
and no more than 9 absences in a semester.
Procedure:
1: If a student misses 6 days of school in a quarter, the students' teacher may refer the
student to the board for review; the student's teacher will make the initial determination
if such a referral is warranted and is provided moderate leniency with the policy. Once a
determination has been made, the student, student's parent/s or guardian/s, as well as the
IACS principal/superintendent and board will receive formal written notification of the
violation and a formal call to the hearing.
The hearing will be held at the monthly board
meeting or as posted by the board. The student and parent/s or guardian/s will be required
to appear before the board at the formal hearing; failure to show at the formal hearing
may be grounds for release from IACS.
The board will allow the student and parent/s
or guardian/s to justify the absences. The board will deliberate each case and make a
determination for an appropriate course of action; the student may be placed on probation
and the board will implement a plan for improvement.
2: If the student fails to meet the requirements set forth by the board's plan for
improvement, the student will be required to appear before the board for a formal
hearing.
The board will review the plan for improvement and may release the student
from IACS. Failure to show at the formal hearing may be grounds from immediate
release from IACS; the board will make the final determination.
