Idaho Arts Charter School
Don Wight - Elementary Music Teacher
Originally from Tacoma, Washington, I moved to Idaho in the early nineties. After several years in the building industry, I decided to put my music degree into practice as a teacher. I continued my education as a University of Idaho Vandal and received my teaching credentials in k-8 general music, and secondary vocal music.
I received my BA from Northwest College in Kirkland Washington, a small private college that produces many fine preachers and teachers and musicians.
I loved Idaho the minute I landed, however, the 18 inches of snow that first year out in the country made me scrutinize my decision.
I have three talented children, Amanda, Michael, and Jonathan.
Many of you have spied me playing my guitar with the kids, I also play trumpet and can fake the piano when necessary.
My first love is voice, the most beautiful and diverse of all instruments.
I enjoy helping the kids find their voice, to start them on their life long musical journeys.
I've had the privilege of starting a new elective here at Idaho Arts Charter, Marimba Building for Middle School. Musical art combined with Industrial art has fused into a fun new alternative music elective.
I've played lead roles in Three Community Theatre Broadway shows, including Curly from "Oklahoma" and Sid Sorokin in "Pajama Game." I've directed and co directed 15 school shows and I enjoy coaching for the stage. Speaking of coaching I was the Cross Country coach at Valley high school for 8 years. I brought teams to state the last six years and had one 2A state championship girl. In cross country my student athletes proved that anyone can achieve great things if they believe.
I AM A BELIEVER....
