Idaho Arts Charter School
Elementary Dance, MS African Drumming and HS HealthTeacher

My name is Brent Wheeler and this is my first year teaching at IACS. My family and I moved to Nampa this summer from Puyallup, WA. This year I will be teaching Elementary Dance (which I like to call Creative Movement), Middle School African Drumming and High School Health. The arts have played a big role in my last 10 years of teaching. I am looking forward to getting to know both the staff and students at IACS and am excited to have a great school year!
I was born and raised in the small town of Camas, WA. I received my B.A. degree in Physical Education and Health from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. I have also earned a M.A. degree in Creative Arts from Lesley University.
I have been teaching for just over13 years. I most recently worked for the Fife School District in Tacoma, WA. For the last 10 years I have taught P.E., Creative Movement and African Drumming to 2nd through 5th graders. I was also co-director of our school's African Drum Ensemble which traveled to other schools and community events presenting a multi-cultural experience to our audiences.
My family includes my wife Toni, who teaches in the Vallivue School District, my eleven year-old son Gavin, who plays the violin, and a Beagle named Rose. We like to spend time backpacking, exploring unique and interesting out of the way places. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, hiking, fishing and mountain climbing.
