Hi, my name is Colene Davenport and I am very happy to be teaching at the new Idaho Arts Charter School.   I have been teaching for 23 years and currently I am finishing at Ridgecrest Alternative High School, Centennial Job Corps where I have been teaching English and Reading for the past seven years.  I was privileged to be a part of the initial school at Job Corps through the Nampa School District.  Before that, I taught for 16 years at Nampa Christian High in the junior and senior high.  I started a summer cheerleading camp that grew in the 10 years I was directing it from 40 to over 250 girls from large and small schools.  It eventually landed in the NCA summer book of camps.  I also directed four school plays throughout my years at NCHS.  For three summers I took groups of students, teachers, and parents to Europe through EF Tours and it has been my dream to once again do this.  Through this program students can receive college credits and it is a wonderful opportunity to learn many new things and see the world.

After going over to teaching At-Risk students at Ridgecrest, I was honored in 2003 as Teacher of the Year.  My seven years have been very fulfilling and rewarding.  I feel so happy that I’ve had this experience in my life.  I’m definitely looking forward to being a part of another wonderful school and to be teaching with three former colleagues from NCHS days.

Just a little bit about my educational career as it seems to be never-ending.  I received my B.A. from NNC and through the years, I continued there to earn my elementary and Masters.  I love to take classes and keep fresh ideas rolling out.  I also feel it is important for students to know how much I value learning and the importance of always acquiring new knowledge.

I love to read and do way too much of it when I should be doing other things.  I play the piano and love any water sport. (I’m sure I was meant to be a mermaid!) My husband, Lee, is a Kuna boy and we have six grandchildren from our two, Megan and Christopher.  Megan works at Pioneer Title and Chris is a Deputy Sheriff for Canyon County.  Life is full and exciting and I know this year will be awesome!  I’m looking forward to meeting my new students.
