Idaho Arts Charter School
Kristin D. Hughes - MS Social Studies, Global
Perspectives, HS History, Government
Hello to all, I am Mr. Kristin D. Hughes and I am the social studies teacher for the Idaho Arts Charter School. Here is a little bit about myself. I grew up in Northern California and when I graduated I did Christian church service in Colombia for 2 years. I returned to the states and moved to Idaho to go to school, where I attended almost every university or college in the state of Idaho because I kept graduating and moving from one school to another for more degrees. All in all I have spent 8 years in college and I almost have my PhD in education, specifically in Curriculum and Instruction.
I hold a Masters of Arts in Teaching in History from the University of Idaho, GO VANDALS! I also have a Bachelors degree from Idaho State University, with a major in Secondary Education and History. I have been teaching for 3 years. I spent a year and a half at the University of Idaho teaching education and history courses and then decided I wanted more public school experience.
I have been teaching at the Idaho Arts Charter School almost since its beginning and I love it here, go IACS! I teach Social Studies, Global Perspectives, U.S. History, and American Government. I have lived in Idaho ever since I move here in 1997 and I feel privileged that my family and I are able to live here and be among such wonderful people.
I have a family of 6. I have two older girls; our oldest is Corinne (8), then Natalie (6), then Nolan (3) and our youngest Reid (6 months). My wife is a wonderful and awesome person, I get asked all the time how I got her to marry me, and my answer is, "I don't know." She is great and a wonderful mother to our 4 children and one of her biggest accomplishments has been her college graduation that took place this last year. We have lived in Nampa for over a year, but we really like the community and all the activities that there are available to us as a family, especially the pools.
Our family hobbies are camping and travel and we are avid participators in both and it doesn't matter how far away a good camp area is, if it is nice, we will camp it! Another one of our favorite family past times is multi-cultural activities and the theatre, mostly as spectators. We love the art of dance and acting and have attended many plays all over the U.S. from Florida, to Wyoming and Idaho. My hobbies are family and fishing, I thoroughly enjoy both. I have a funny man’s personality and use humor quite often in the classroom; it makes teaching fun and enjoyable. In addition I think that you must know that I love history and I love teaching it. It doesn't matter if it is world, political, or United States history, it is all fascinating!
I am deeply honored and excited to be at the Idaho Arts Charter School as a social studies teacher. When asked by community members about how I like to the school I tell them "I love it." This school and students have so much potential and in the year and a half here I have seen the greatness of the school and its art-focused curriculum. I have witnessed tremendous growth in students as they participate in the school, its programs and the curriculum; and I truly believe the curriculum gives the students at IACS a better rounded education than many public schools.
Well this is Mr. Hughes in a walnut shell. I hope to get to know and work with everyone.
