Idaho Arts Charter School
Colleen Fox - Elementary/MS Orchestra Teacher

Colleen FoxI graduated from Albertson College of Idaho with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Viola Performance and Secondary Instrumental Music Education and minors in Education and German. I recently finished the Masters of Arts in Teaching at ACI.

This year will be my third year teaching at IACS, and I am so excited for the new opportunities awaiting us with a new school building and a new year. I am really looking forward to teaching string orchestra, general music, and piano classes. I have lots of new ideas I just can't wait to explore with the students of IACS.

Colleen Fox I graduated from Albertson College of Idaho in 2005 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Viola Performance and Secondary Instrumental Music Education and minors in Education and German, and I finished the Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2007.

I began playing violin in the school orchestra when I was twelve, and two years later I picked up the viola. I continued playing both instruments in the school orchestra through high school as well as play with the Magic Philharmonic Orchestra in Burley, Idaho. I've won various solo performance competitions, and also had the wonderful opportunity to perform in the all-state orchestra during my high school years.

One of my best musical summers was in 2003 when I lived in Seattle, WA and played in five different orchestras, including the Mahler Festival Orchestra. My best memory from that summer, and most musically inspiring experience, was when I performed with the Kilmany Fiddle Band at the Scottish Highland Games at the King County Fairgrounds. I took only my viola with me thinking that is the instrument most orchestras want. I never realized playing several instruments would come in handy. I had to have my mom ship my violin to me when I found out several groups really wanted me to play both instruments in the same performance! (But not at the same time).

Outside of teaching school I enjoy performing as violist, in various small ensembles. Recently I've added the Music Theatre of Idaho to my list of performances. It's a wonderful experience to see so many families and children perform in the community, and I love seeing IACS students there too! I also love working with animals. I currently ride my black horse, Cubi, in all the rodeos I can, and I have a two-year-old colt, Hot Spice, who is a joy to be training. The picture is of Hot Spice's second ride, and my mom is my training buddy who is on the ground. I also have a cat, C.C., who rules the house, and a dog, Kendra.
